People who have suffered from a stroke or a traumatic brain injury are confronted with a variety of deficits. If many of these impairments respond positively to sensorimotor and cognitive therapies, there are still several difficulties to overcome. For example, a number of these people develop apathy. This loss of motivation and interest limits interaction with those around them, such as therapists and relatives, and can severely impair functional recovery. As part of the European SUN project – pilot 3 – our aim is to encourage social participation and involvement in various activities of daily life for these people by using extended reality.
Combining new technologies, such as deep brain stimulation, with the rehabilitation process can certainly help to improve recovery potential.
