Juan and  Elena Perez-Bernabeu from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV); Paolo Cignoni and Daniela Giorgi from the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche-Pisa (CNR); and Fabio Perossini from KPeople Foundation Research (KPFR) are the organisers of the invited session: ‘Extended reality and metaverse to address the social challenges of manufacturing and healthcare in the industry 5.0’ at the 18th IFAC Symposium on Information Control Problems in Manufacturing (INCOM 2024), to be celebrated in Vienna on 28-30 August.

This invited session will focus how metaverse technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and eXtended Reality (XR), can enhance industrial and healthcare environments by improving social interaction, collaborative training, and decision support systems. The metaverse can operate efficiently and effectively within defined guidelines, incorporating Operations Research (OR) techniques and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods.
