To optimize the performance of gaze-activated UIs in the SUN project’s use cases, TUC introduces mechanisms that address the Midas touch problem, where unintended activations are triggered by mere gazing. The “gaze-to-select and blink-to-commit” approach leverages user blinks as deliberate inputs, by distinguishing intentional blinks from reflexive ones greatly reducing false activations. The interfaces are designed to start in a compact form and expand in response to the user’s gaze input, providing more information as needed while minimizing real-world obstruction. This approach ensures a seamless user experience, maintaining clarity and control in interaction.
